Guitar
Rigs of the Gods, Part 9. You cannot mention the phrase “Guitar God” without making
mention of one Eddie Van Halen. Like his music or not, there is no doubt of his
mastery of the instrument. Eddie’s rig begins with his signature ax, the Kramer
with locking tremolo and single Humbucker by the bridge. He then goes into a Custom
Audio Electronics 4x4 RS-10 amp switcher – because he’s gotta whole lotta amps
in his rig! He uses 2 Marshall 100 watt heads and no less than 4 of his signature
model Peavey 5150s. (as you will see a little later, he only uses the pre-amp
section of these amps. After his array of amps comes his effects rack, which is
loaded with 1) a Furman Power Conditioner, 2) an Eventide H300SE, 3) a Roland
SDE3000, 4) another Roland SDE 3000, and finally 2 Lexicon PCM 70s. Oh – don’t
forget the Rocktron Smartgate. When he’s done with his effects rack, now he goes
into his favorite Stompboxes of yore, to wit; an old MXR Phase 90, a Boss OC-2,
and a Dunlop CryBaby Wah. After that, he goes into his second rack (!) consisting
of a Groove Tubes Speaker Simulator, a Palmer Speaker Simulator, and 3 (count
‘em, three) HH VS800 Power Amps. He finishes his rig with a minimum of 3 4x12
speaker cabs. Can you say loud! |
