Rigs of the Gods, Part 12 (b) We left you hanging while talking about Kirk Hammet’s
extremely complex rig. We left you at the first Signal Path option from the first
Amp Switcher that he uses. The second Signal Path from the Mesa/Boogie amp switcher
goes to, yes, you guessed it, a second amp switcher, this time a Bob Bradshaw
RSB 18R. From there the signal is routed to a) a TC Electronic M2000, or b) an
EMB Remote Wah. Here’s where it gets really tricky. The next step is a series
of 4 Ernie Ball Wahs – all used as controllers! (The brains of his effects live
off-stage.) Let’s go back to the amplifiers for a minute. After the third amp
head he runs straight in to a) a load box, and b) a 300 watt speaker buried somewhere
off stage acting as a load. (For some reason that takes a degree in a different
field of endeavor than mine to understand, his Marshall JMP-1 bypasses all of
this load business.) After the load, he then runs into 3 Mesa/Boogie power amps,
which in turn drive 3 4x12 Mesa/Boogie Cabinets. Sheesh! Is he a guitarist or
an engineer?! |
