Guitar Tip: Sound like Kirk Hammet of Metallica

Guitar Rigs of the Gods, Part 12(a). Kirk Hammet of Metallica runs a rig as convoluted as some of the music he makes. His rig set-up is driven by the requirements of his stage show. Kirk’s sound starts with the guitar, in this case being an ESP Kirk Hammet laded with EMG Pickups. From there it takes a turn into delirium, as he needs to be able to access his rig and all of the sounds it can produces from no less than 4 different points on the stage. The first device his signal encounters is a Mesa Engineering Amp Switcher. From there, the signal is sent to either a) a Marshall JMP-1, b) a Mesa/Boogie Tri-Axis, or c) a Mesa/ Boogie Dual Rectifier head. But wait, that’s to simple…keep reading these tips to find out just how weird he gets!
