Guitar Tip: Marshall Scooped Sound

Many of us guitar players have what I refer to as “Closet Bands” that influenced us greatly when we were children just picking up our instruments, but we are ashamed to admit in adulthood that we were way into them when we were kids. Typically these are bands of the Hard Rock variety, e.g. Alice Cooper. We dug the music, but most of all we dug the nasty guitars. There is no reason that I can think of why you would not want to have those sounds in your arsenal today. Most of those sounds are the overdriven Marshall “Scooped” sounds. The “Scooped refers to the absence of Mids in the equalization of your amp. To get this sound at the touch of a button, get any one of a wide variety of stomp-box style EQ’s available on the market today. Set the Bass and Treble ranges to the max, and then pull the Mids all the way down. Now, when you want that cool sound, step on the box.
