Here’s
a riff that forms the basis for many country guitar licks, otherwise known as
“Chicken Pickin.’” It’s known as a “Flat Riff.” The Tab I have included here has
the riff beginning on a G note, i.e. key of G. The first note is a full quarter
note; all of the rest are eight notes. G—------------------0 D—-----------0-2-0 A—----0-1-2 E—3--
To
carry it further you can add the next octave… E—-----------------3 B—----------3-5-3 G—0-2-3-4
Pick
every note and remember—hammer-ons and pull-offs are cheating!
