Guitar Tip: Make Your Own Talkbox

There is a way that you can make your own Talk-Box. All you will need is an A/B box, a length of surgical tubing (check at drugstores. If they don’t carry it, they’ll know where to get it) and the driver to a horn. You will need to make sure that the driver you choose will handle the power of your amp, i.e., don’t connect a 25 watt horn to a 50 watt amp unless all you want is a puff of blue smoke. Take the tubing and jam it onto the driver where the horn would normally fit. Take a cord and run it from the Speaker Out on the back of your amp to one of the inputs on the A/B box. Take another cord and run it to where you have attached a female ¼ inch jack to the back of the driver. Now, when you set up your rig, run the tubing up your mic stand. Step on the A/B box and switch between the speakers and your Talk-Box.
