Guitar Rigs of the Gods, Part
6. Sonny Landreth is a session player and recording artist renowned for his monstrous
slide chops. He also has one of the most unique setups I have run across yet.
He begins with a modified Strat (a couple of Humbuckers on his ax) and then runs
immediately into an old red MXR Dynacomp compressor pedal. From there, he runs
into either a Demeter TGA-3 head or a 1954 Fender Deluxe amp. From here, it gets
interesting: he runs into a Demeter Silent Speaker cabinet containing a Celestion
Vintage 30 12 inch speaker (This is an Iso-cab!) with a shure SM-57 mic in the
enclosure. From there, the signal goes to an API 312 Mic Pre and an API 550-A
EQ. He has also been known to terminate his signal in an honest-to-goodness Leslie
Cabinet. No simulators for this tone purist!
