Guitar rigs of the Gods, Part
11. Steve Morse is God’s own session man, with gigs ranging from jazz to fusion
to heavy metal. As such, it is mandated that his rig be as flexible as it gets.
His sound begins with his guitar, an Ernie Ball Strat Hybrid. He then runs into
his pedal board, consisting of 2 boost switches (TC Electronic Boost and Tri-Axis
Boost)5 volume pedals, a tuner, and an A/B box. He uses the volume pedals to bring
in and out the various effects that he has in his rack. His rack consists of a
Furman Power Conditioner, a MIDI interface, an Ensoniq ESQM, a Lexicon LXP- a
Lexicon LXP-15, a DigiTech 2112, a Lexicon PCM-42, a Lexicon PCM-41, a Lexicon
Prime Time a Peavey Mixer, a Peavey EQ, and a Peavey Power Amp. Here’s where he
gets tricky: he comes out of the power amp in his rack and feeds two 3-way monitors.
This is for acoustic and synth guitar use. From his pedal board, he comes out
of the TC Electronic Boost and runs into his rack. From the Lexicon PCM 42, he
takes an out and feeds it to his Peavey VTM-100 amp with a Peavey 4x12 slant cabinet
equipped with Scorpion Plus speakers. The out from the Tri-Axis Boost on his Pedal
Board goes into a Mesa-Boogie Tri-Axis amp, which sits on top of but doesn’t feed
a 100 watt Marshall. (That’s what the A/B box ifs for…I think.) |
