Guitar
Rigs of the Gods, Part 10. Like his idol Jimi Hendrix, Stevie Ray Vaughn had a
brief but illuminated career whose impact is still being felt years after his
untimely death. (He did tune down a half step…)Stevie’s sound began with his guitar,
the ’54 Strat with .013 gauge strings on it. He then ran it through a Vox Wah,
a Diaz Square Fuzz, a Tycobrahe Octavia and a Boss CH-1 chorus. After his pedals,
he ran through a Leslie cabinet (Thou shalt not utter the word ‘Simulated’ in
the same sentence as Stevie Ray Vaughn…). He then ran out of the Leslie and into
a veritable array of Fender Amps, mostly vintage including a Super Reverb, an
old Bassman head, and a Vibroverb. He also played through a Marshall equipped
with 6550 power tubes on occasion. |
